Everything about Engineered Stone totally explained
Engineered stone is a composite material comprising
rock and
resin. It is used primarily for kitchen
countertops.
Engineered stone products are gaining in popularity and are sometimes preferred over
granite products because engineered stone requires less maintenance and has better resistance to stains and bacterial contamination.
The Breton Process
Breton, an Italian company, is the dominant supplier of equipment for making engineered stone. A mixture of 93%
quartz and 7% polyester resin is pressed into slabs (or larger blocks) using Breton's "vibrocompression vacuum process". After curing, the slabs are cut into sheets.
